Van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Home Ground

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Following a drab weekday display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - notched his second in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
